About the playlist.

Here are 23 tracks I’ve put together from the CDs and Vinyl that I purchased and listened to as a teenager <3 Drum n Bass and Jungle were my first loves when it comes to dance music.

When I was 13 years old I got the internet in my home. I had been listening to mostly producer music and some electronic music before this, but when I found the online radio station “Bassdrive” everything changed. It blew my mind to be honest. It was the moment I found music that felt like mine (also it was mine because only a friend or two would also listen to it with me haha)! I would go to local shows with friends as see lots of punk and hardcore bands, but it never lit a fire in me like D’n’B. I would tell people “it was my punk rock”. It was my alternative culture.

The tracks on the list are by no means rarities and I like it that way. You always start somewhere with music before you dive deep and this was the palette that brought me to where I am today. It got me interested in dance music and it formed my deep love for breaks. This playlist is a mix from hard-edged choons to beautiful songs.

I hope you enjoy it <3

xoxo Maya.

How is this crisis affecting you?

Like a lot of other artists I’ve lost most of my work. I have been lucky enough to be a touring DJ and live performer for the better part of 8 years. It feels very strange to not be playing and casting spells like I normally would be, but I’ve been continuing to do art at home and that’s felt great. I live with my partners Eris Drew and Q. We’re all home taking care of each other and trying to get through this. A lot of special art is being created though since we’re in our studios so much <3
